Bristol University Symphony Orchestra - GREAT! AWESOME! FANTASTIC!!

there are about 100performers..? not that many.. esp wind and brass...!

i don't know what's my conductor(for wind orchestra) doing in there as the trombone principal! so obvious that he is the only old fella with grey hair and big belly(besides the conductor).. perhaps they run out of trombonist?

of course they are not as good as MPO or other professional orchestra but i think their individual skills is really good! esp for strings and perc.. ensemble was a bit bad though.. haha!

and the conductor was quite exaggerating! as if he is dancing on the podium!

love the tone and musicality of the oboe principal! it's great to see that oboe sections are dominated by girls! we have 6 girls 0guys in wind orchestra's oboe section.. then again, uni symphony has 2 girls 0 guys as well.. i haven't mention the other english horn player which is also a girl!! =p

they played:
Martinu : Symphony No.3
Shostakovich : Symphony No.5

great audience! no one clapped at all between the movements! this never happens back home i think.. although it's much better now if you go for MPO...

i don't see any asians in the 90% full audience seating area..! we are so not musical! even in the orchestra there's only one chinese guy playing the violin!

this is Victoria Rooms.. nice hall!! i played here with the wind orchestra last week.. =)

though most of them went for the Ball which is on the same day, same time.. no regrets for me going to this concert alone! no distractions.. enjoy music!
ask me to choose? of course music comes first b4 good food + drinks... whatever the others are having! =p

looking forward for Bristol University Chamber Orchestra (another auditioned orchestra of the university)'s evening concert next week.. this time around, it's free for music society members i heard.. yayayyyy! ;)
